“I have been a family genealogist since age 10 - yes, 10. The individuals I have encountered in my own family tree have made the historical events they participated in come to life.

Individuals are as important to history as are the events. When Thirteen became One gives those individuals the credit they deserve.”

Jack Head

I grew up in a small town where annually, on April 19, men and women gathered to walk the trails to the North Bridge in Concord to pay homage to the men who died it in 1775. I wondered why independent villages, towns, and even colonies in the 1700s came together to throw off the yoke of the British Empire and all its territorial benefits. I started to study what brought them together for this unified fight. I discovered I wanted to understand the relationship of these men and women that are recorded as mere events.

As I walked the trails our founding fathers created and our patriotic ancestors’ travels, I realized I wanted to know more about them. When Thirteen became One is the result of my endeavor to piece together the events that led up to the War of Independence. I have presented the history of some of the revolts, not all of them, that preceded April 19, 1775, when men using pens and civil disobedience resisted the British monarch. I continue to collect stories and documents of the individuals who built this country - the documents that are the glue that binds us as a nation, an experiment in democracy.

I have spent my life facilitating the growth of others when I was an aquatic instructor at Camp Resolute Scout Camp, teaching swimming. I have been privileged to continue my work providing human solutions to business problems with industry leaders on Total Cycle Time to college students on personal growth and knowledge.

Other than all of this, I am a prolific reader, writer, and researcher.

Why I Wrote When Thirteen Became One

I wrote this book because I love history. American History specifically. And I know I am not the only one. This book is more than just the average story of events. It is also a look into the human beings who were there. This is Their story.

This is the perfect book for Revolutionary aficionados and those seeking educational information on Revolutionary figures and events. While we give acknowledgement on April 19 to the men who faced armed engagement with the overseeing British Monarch's mighty army, this work addresses the many who protested and confronted the monarch before that date. It is a demonstration that literate and a free press can ignite a common cause.

Selected Memories of Vietnam 1969 -1970

After College, I was drafted and whisked through training in the Army’s hope to have me ‘in country’ for the 1969 TET offensive. This book is my experiences as a Good Will Ambassador to Southeast Asia with the 11th Light Infantry Brigade, America Division, U.S. Army. It is about the time I spent wiping out communism, and having my faith in the Washington leadership’s ability to wage war destroyed.
